Mission Statement
The mission of the Sleepy Hollow Tree Commission is to provide guidance and support to the Village on the management of Sleepy Hollow’s urban forest as identified in the Tree Code. This includes: implementation of current village/state regulations; care of healthy trees on village property; attention directed at tree species diversity, distribution, and replacement; and promotion and education to foster community stewardship of the full Village tree canopy.
Intent Section of Village Tree Code – Chapter 385
Trees and shrubs are necessary to protect the health, safety, beauty, environment, ecosystems and general welfare of the inhabitants and properties of the Village of Sleepy Hollow. Trees and their canopies are infrastructure as they act as a natural noise barrier, provide oxygen, impede soil erosion and flooding, aid water absorption, absorb CO 2 and other pollutants, provide shade, screening and privacy, and improve the character of the neighborhood. They also promote species diversity.
