A message from Mayor Ken Wray Regarding Sleepy Hollow Designated a COVID-19 Yellow Zone
As many of you already know, Governor Cuomo has placed a number of the Rivertowns in Yellow Zones, including Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown.
You may recall that I voiced a concern that this would happen at a recent Trustee meeting, especially after a number of incidents in the Village over Halloween.
A COVID-19 Yellow Zone is like a Yellow Flag in racing or a Yellow Card in soccer. It means slow down, caution, and stop acting recklessly. It’s a warning.
What can you do?
As a community, we have to come together; we must wear masks; and we must maintain social distances of at least 6 feet. There are many people who live and work in Sleepy Hollow who are elderly or immunocompromised and their lives depend on us doing the right thing. No one wants to get the virus, let alone transmit it to our friends and neighbors.
My family, which had already scaled back our Thanksgiving dinner to less than 10 people, will now be staying in our respective homes and will not gather at all. I ask that you consider the same.
County Executive George Latimer and I are speaking about bringing in additional testing resources to the village. Testing is key. It is how we can track the spread and uptick in the caseload. In the meantime, call the New York State COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-364-3065 or visit the NYSDOH website https://covid19screening.health.ny.gov. There is free testing available for Westchester residents across the county in New Rochelle. If you can, please take advantage of it. (Other testing locations are found around the county, but be sure to check on the cost. Home testing is now available, but again, there is a cost associated with it.)
And of course there’s an app: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-alert-ny. It lets you know if you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.
For the sake of your families, your friends and Sleepy Hollow, please be attentive and thoughtful; be responsible and safe.
Ken Wray
Mayor
