With 31 full-time employees, the Department of Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of all roads, sidewalks, street lights, street signs, and parking meters in the Village of Sleepy Hollow. The Department also maintains a water distribution system and pump stations for potable water and is responsible for snow and leaf removal, storm water management, recycling and garbage pickup .

LEAVES – Picked up Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from October 15th until the end of December or the first snowfall. Leaves should be left in neat piles at the curb where they will be collected by the Village’s vacuum truck. During other times of the year, leaves should be bagged in biodegradable paper bags and left at the curb for pick-up on Mondays (see below).
- OTHER YARD WASTE – On Mondays, the Village will collect yard waste that has been bagged in biodegradeable paper bags and left at the curb. Brush should be tied in bundles that are no longer than five feet in length. Leaves should be bagged in biodegradeable paper bags. Grass clippings will not be collected.
Appliance Removal Sticker
- Removal of appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, hot water heaters or dishwashers requires a special sticker costing $25 per item. To obtain a sticker, visit the Village Clerk's office on the second floor of Village Hall. Adhere the sticker to the appliance and leave at the curb for pick-up on recycling day (Wednesday).
Electronic Equipment Removal
- The following will be picked up on recycling day (Wednesday) and should be left at the curb: electronic equipment such as televisions, computers, computer keyboards, monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines, VCRs, DVD players, typewriters, toaster ovens, microwaves, irons, calculators, or any item with a power cord.
